Judgement: Tarot Card Meaning

Judgement is the twentieth card of the Major Arcana and stands for awakening, reflection and answering a calling. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck an angel blows a trumpet from the clouds, and people rise from their coffins below with their arms outstretched. It is a picture of rebirth, of hearing a call to become more fully yourself.
Upright meaning
Upright, Judgement marks a moment of reckoning and renewal. You look back at your past honestly, forgive yourself and others, and decide who you want to become. A calling may be getting louder, whether it is a new path, a change of heart or a decision long overdue. Listen to it, and let go of what you have outgrown.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, you may be harshly judging yourself, ignoring a call to change or stuck in regret about the past. Self-doubt can keep you from the fresh start that is available. Practise forgiveness, including toward yourself, and look at what you have learned instead of only what went wrong.
In love
In love, Judgement points to a rebirth, a heartfelt conversation, a second chance or finally seeing a relationship clearly. Forgive and be honest. Reversed, it suggests resentment, regret or being too harsh on yourself or a partner, and asks you to let the past go.
In career
At work, it favours a calling, a career reassessment, a promotion or a change that feels like the right next step. Answer the call. Reversed, it warns of self-criticism, avoiding an important choice or feeling stuck over past mistakes.
As a yes or no answer
As a yes or no answer, Judgement leans yes when upright, because it is time for a clear, honest step forward. Reversed, it becomes a maybe, so deal with doubts and regrets first.
